I'm Margaret G., the breeder behind Valhalla Icelandic Sheepdogs located in Meadow Bridge, WV. I breed Icelandic Sheepdogs with excellent temperaments so they can be wonderful companions. Each dog is wonderful in every way! I treasure each puppy in my program and give them all the attention and care that I possibly can. I work hard so my puppies can leave my home with confidence, ready to take on the world with their new family! I achieve this by foll9wing Puppy Culture protocols with lots of exposures. I ask my families to commit to Puppy Culture to follow through on the foundation I start. Those that do, have a much easier time rearing their pups.
Q. & A. with Margaret
Why did you start breeding?
I started with a pet Siberian and a pair of pet German Shepherds. I bred rabbits, waterfowl, and exotic birds. I wanted a dog that looked like a Siberian with the work ethic of a Shepherd. But it had to be good with children and livestock. The ISD was a perfect match for me. Beauty, brains, herding breed, and fiercely independent. I began breeding in 2004 with imported foundation stock.
What makes your program special?
I have always bred for temperament first. The pet market makes up 90-95% of placements, so breeding for a dog the average, an experienced dog owner can handle, only makes sense. I know most litters will also contain a show, breeding, or performance prospect. A small gene pool and extensive outcrossing means diversity in our litters. All puppies are matched to their new owner to achieve the best fit.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
