Meet the breeder

I'm Tiffany H., the breeder behind Velaris located in Franklinville, NJ. We are dedicated to preserving the unique qualities of our breeds. With a focus on drive, temperament, and structure, our breeding program is backed by comprehensive health testing and selection. We are involved in the show community, with multiple AKC CH and participation in performance events.

Q. & A. with Tiffany

  • Why did you start breeding?

I got Kona, my first well bred purebred, in 2022 and we hit the ground running with AKC. I put well over 15 back and front end titles on her including her AKC CH and GCH. I wanted to continue the legacy of beautiful well bred purebreds and encourage others to get into AKC sports.
  • What makes your program special?

With a professional background as a veterinary technician specializing in reproduction, I like to incorporate medical expertise and a deep understanding of genetics, fertility, and whelping to my program. Every breeding is carefully planned with health testing, pedigree study, and breed standard in mind — ensuring each litter carries forward the best qualities of Mudi and Icelandic Sheepdog. But it's about more than just producing healthy, sound dogs. It’s about raising puppies with the right foundation — from early socialization and enrichment to exposing them to experiences that prepare them for success in family homes, the show ring, or performance sports. My dedication doesn’t end when puppies leave; I provide lifelong support to owners and stands by every dog bred under the Velaris name. What truly sets my program apart is the combination of heart and professionalism — a commitment to preserving rare breeds while honoring the trust that new families place in every puppy they welcome home.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Icelandic Sheepdog puppies are sable and white. Mudi puppies include black merle and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Velaris reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Icelandic Sheepdogs.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, DNA Repository

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
