Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Vom Eiswald / Swanson Kennels located in Detroit Lakes, MN. To fully qualify a dog for breeding takes about 2 years which includes 2 performance hunt tests, breed show where live conformation is judged, and health tests, including hips and ureter screening. Along with qualify dogs, handlers that want to breed need to be approved for a kennel through Germany.

Q. & A. with Ryan & Karla

  • Why did you start breeding?

We had a Lab that was our baby before we had actually babies. We bred her once with intentions of keeping a puppy back in 2005. Fast forward to 2015 our lab just passed from Cancer and we call a guy from South Dakota about a dog. He is the president of KlM-GNA which is a breed club. He asked if we would be open to breeding. We said if the dog had what it takes we would try to get her qualified.
  • What makes your program special?

As members of KlM-GNA which is the 17 chapter of the German club we have access to the German stud dogs for our breed program as well as their database which includes over 54,000 dogs information on performance testing as well as health information. This allows us to look into family health history for upwards of 50 years.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
