I'm Tana W., the breeder behind W5 Pointers located in Osakis, MN. We love these dogs and everything that this breed encompasses. We hold ourselves to high ethical standards and breed only once every year to two years.
Our dogs are AKC registered with 4-generation pedigrees. DNA tested and clear of hereditary markers.
We do not participate in showmanship of any kind. Our dogs are family members first and hunting partners in the field second. We breed for temperament, trainability, hunting instinct, and traits that make for a well-rounded family companion.
Q. & A. with Tana
Why did you start breeding?
After getting our first female GSP, we realized very quickly that she had the nose of an incredible hunter and the temperament of the most desired family companion we've ever had: gentle, calm, quiet, and a magnet to kids. In a breed that can be so high-strung, we knew right away that we needed to pass her traits on to the next generation. Her first litter did just that!
What makes your program special?
Both the Dam and Stud used are DNA tested and negative for all hereditary markers, as well as vet checked for breeding clearance. Tikka will be obtaining her OFA certifications in 2026.
Our pups are AKC registerable, have their tails docked, dew claws removed, dewormed, vet checked, with their first round of shots. They are very socialized around other animals and young kids who love on them daily.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are liver roan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Two weeks old! We are starting to open our eyes and stand on shaky little legs! Our “freckles” are just starting to show up in shadows and will start to fill in over the next couple of weeks!
I anticipate there to be lots of ticked/roan patters in this group.
There will be quite a bit of fast development happening over the next couple of weeks! ♥️

Where do I even begin! Tana at W5 Pointers was a dream to have during this process. Tana was extremely responsive, answered any and all questions that I had and even asked me questions about our life to make sure our boy was going to a perfect home. While we were waiting to bring our Houser home, Tana sent us video's and pictures of him while also giving us updates on how he was doing which was extremely reassuring to us. When we picked Houser up they were extremely welcoming allowed us to see Houser and his mom (Tikka) playing together and let us get to know Tikka. Tana made sure that we had all the information that we needed and that we were fully prepared to bring our boy home! She let us ask as many questions as we wanted which I had plenty of! It was extremely comforting to see Tikka's calm and nurturing demeanor she was such a sweetheart. Houser clearly got her calmness and sweet demeanor. Houser is almost 16 weeks now and he is the sweetest, calmest, gentle, silly boy! He is the biggest snuggle bug! He has been fully potty trained of a few weeks now, leach and crate trained, and even loves to show you that he can shake! He loves pheasant feathers and is showing such an interest in hunting and is pointing like crazy. We get compliments everywhere we go about how sweet and calm he is for him being a GSP puppy. He is the talk and main focus anywhere we bring him! He loves other dogs and play's so nice and gentle with every person, kiddo, or other dog he comes in contact with! Houser is by far the best boy we could have ever have asked for and so much more! We are so thankful for Tana and for her helping us get our Houser!

Tana at W5 Pointers made my process getting our puppy Rya flawless. She sent me constant update photos, videos, and stories! As well as answering any questions I had and even the ones I didn’t know I needed to ask. It’s very clear how much her and her family care about her dogs and that they will be going to a wonderful home :) Picking her up was a breeze and Tara was so welcoming, we were able to meet our puppies mom (Tikka) who is the sweetest and most well behaved GSP I’ve ever met. She very clearly passes these traits down because I get constant compliments everywhere I go on how well behaved, calm, and kind my girl is for such a high-strung breed whether it’s from strangers who have had experience with the breed or even from her vet, she is a hit everywhere she goes. She is a magnet for kids, constantly letting them pick her up, and always being so gentle while playing with them. She also is an amazing hunter already, having the nose and a perfect point for me at only 12 weeks well still staying calm and settled, learning every command we’ve thrown at her almost instantly. She is so smart picking up potty, crate, and leash training within my first week of having her. Tara also has many barn cats and the puppies definitely are raised to respect their space which she kept with my three cats! She is truly the best companion I could have ever asked for and I’m so thankful for Tara helping me find her!!
