I'm Tanya J., the breeder behind Windswept Icelandic Sheepdogs located in Redding, CT. Our Icelandic Sheepdogs live much like their ancestors did in Iceland. They patrol the farm, keep our free rage chickens safe, accompany us on horseback rides and most importantly are happily by our sides both day and night. Our goal is to preserve the versatility and maintain the stellar health of this remarkable breed.
Q. & A. with Tanya
Why did you start breeding?
We fell in love with the wonderful, loving nature of the breed combined with how versatile and healthy they are. Impressed with how extensive the efforts are to maintain the integrity of the breed, we wanted to do our part to carry that forward.
We started with two beautiful stud dogs:
Haustlita’s Olafur Orrason and Valhalla’s Shadow Dancer II CGC TKN BCAT
The first litter was sired in 2024.
What makes your program special?
All of our dogs carry some less common genetics and have exceptional temperaments along with the traditional versatility of “home to farm” that the breed is known for. We are not in the “business” of breeding, rather our interest is in preserving the integrity of the breed.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and white, gold and white, white tan and black, and sable. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
