I'm Heather D., the breeder behind Wunderbar Weims located in Giltner, NE. We strive to produce quality Weimaraners for hunting and companion animals. Our dogs are more than pets. They are part of our family that live in our house and are a big part of our lives. Our goal is to produce healthy puppies that will provide their owners with a loyal and loving companion whether they are in the field, retrieving waterfowl, or warming the couch.
Q. & A. with Heather
Why did you start breeding?
I went to college and graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences with some extra studies in genetics and breeding. We have been a hunting family since the beginning, got introduced to Weimaraners shortly after we were married, and we never looked back. We loved the breed so much and realized there weren't many available, so we decided to get into the breeding side as well as hunting them.
What makes your program special?
We are a family program. All our dogs and puppies are taken care of and loved by our whole family. We also train our dogs together as a family. We are passionate about Weimaraners, and our love for these dogs shines through in every aspect of our breeding program.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have smooth coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include silver gray and gray. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Wunderbar Weims reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Weimaraners.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Animal Genetics Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
