Performance factors are key elements that drive your success in placing puppies in great homes on Good Dog. By improving your performance factors, you can improve your visibility in search results, build stronger credibility on the platform, and connect with more potential Good Dog buyers.
We’ve analyzed our data to identify four key performance factors that drive success on Good Dog—detailed listings, health test uploads, success guiding contacts to placement, and Verified Owner Stories. Your Insights Dashboard will tell you how you’re performing on these factors, why they matter, and what steps you can take to improve them.

Your placement rate reflects how well you guide Good Dog buyers to a match, and is measured by the number of contacts that result in puppy payments on Good Dog. A strong rate improves your search ranking, leading to 80% more contacts for top performers.
You are always in control of which buyers you choose to work with and top performer benchmarks are designed with the understanding that most buyers who contact you do not result in a placement. We’re not looking to see that you work with every buyer who contacts you. Instead, we’re looking to see a track record of success with the buyers who you feel are right for your program.
By uploading the health testing files and links for the sires and dams of your active litters, you’re building credibility and educating buyers on all that goes into your program. Check out this video to learn how to upload health testing for your sires and dams, and when you’re ready, upload your results here.
Don’t forget that as a Good Dog breeder, you have exclusive access to discounts and reimbursements for health testing, including significant savings on genetic tests. These special offers are designed to support your commitment to breeding healthy dogs. Explore your exclusive benefits.
Providing detailed puppy listings is an important way to attract more serious buyers to your listings and build trust with them, which ultimately helps improve how your listings convert to placements. Detailed listings that include at least 3 puppy photos or videos, unique puppy names, and detailed descriptions can double your contacts compared to incomplete listings.

Verified Owner Stories allow your Good Dog owners to share photos and updates to give you a glimpse into how their puppy is doing in their new home. These personal stories are featured on your profile and listings to build trust with potential buyers. Owner stories can help give potential buyers an idea of what it’s like to work with you, and we’ve found that breeders with 3 or more stories typically see increased interest from families looking for puppies.
Only buyers who complete a puppy payment on Good Dog are eligible to write a Verified Owner Story for your program. Good Dog sends your buyers a request to complete a story two weeks after pick up. You can also send buyers a personal request to leave a story on your profile anytime after they complete a final dog payment to you by using + menu in your messenger. Our team will also reach out to your buyer via email reminding them to share their story if they haven’t completed your request after a few weeks.
We encourage breeders to offer detailed puppy updates, maintain consistent communication, and share their expert knowledge about their breed and program with potential Good Dog buyers. We see that this level of care builds strong relationships and naturally encourages buyers to share positive experiences.
Top performers are four times more likely to place their litters on Good Dog and represent breeders who excel at presenting high quality listings, demonstrating credibility through verified owner stories and health test uploads, and guiding Good Dog buyers to a successful match.
Each individual performance factor has a top performer benchmark. Top performer benchmarks are updated quarterly to show how your performance factors compare to those of breeders having the most success on Good Dog within your breed.
Top performer metrics are not affected by program size but instead focus on the quality of the buyer experience provided and success placing puppies in great homes. We make these metrics transparent so you can see how your performance factors rank relative to those of top-performing breeders like you within your breed.
The Analytics section of your Insights tab will give you more information about how your program and individual puppy listings are performing. From this section, you can understand how buyers are engaging with your listings, and keep track of your responsiveness to messages from Good Dog buyers.
You’ll be able to see how many buyers have viewed your puppy listings from our search results, and then clicked on your listings to learn more information about a specific pup. You can also see how many buyers have favorited or contacted you about a specific puppy. By identifying your top-performing listings, you can determine what improvements to make—such as adding high-quality photos, descriptions, or unique names—to increase views on your other listings.

Your traffic source breakdown will help you understand where and how buyers discovered your program. If the source includes "Good Dog," it means they found you through Good Dog’s website or our marketing efforts, like paid advertisements. Sources listed as "direct to your profile" or "from your social pages" indicate that buyers found you through a link to your Good Dog profile, that was either shared on your personal website, social media, or directly with them.
Breeders are ranked based on quality-oriented factors like distance, listing completeness, health testing documentation, verified owner stories, and a track record of successfully guiding buyers to matches on Good Dog. You can always consult your Insights tab to see how you can improve your search visibility.
To increase your success on Good Dog, focus on improving your performance factors. Each factor has specific steps to help you identify areas that need your attention and what actions you can take to improve. By focusing on increasing performance in these areas, you'll improve your visibility, build stronger credibility, and increase your chances of connecting with more Good Dog buyers. Any improvements in these areas can lead to significant results in placing your puppies in forever homes through Good Dog.
No, the size of your program does not affect your performance factors. We’ve designed each performance factor and top performer benchmark to be fair for programs of all sizes, whether large or small, by focusing on breeders’ individual listings. The size of your program does not impact your performance factors, search visibility, or success on Good Dog.
After taking all of the actions outlined in the “Opportunities” section of your Insights dashboard, you’ll start seeing your performance factors improve. Your performance factors dashboard will automatically refresh every day, so you can always stay up to date with how your program is doing!

Top performers and Preferred Breeders are different. Preferred Breeders meet specific criteria and earn an exclusive badge on their profile and listings. While Preferred Breeder status doesn't directly impact your search ranking or visibility, it helps build trust with buyers.
