My husband and I decided to breed Border Collies six years ago, or should I say my husband decided to raise Border Collies because it was always my dream. My husband had only had one dog in his life and it was a Basset Hound named Elvis, who was really his children’s dog.

In 2015 when my husband and I were just dating, he met my dog Grace. Grace was half Border Collie and half Australian Shepherd, and she had the best from both breeds. She played frisbee, ball, and volleyball. He had never seen or interacted with a dog that played, knew commands, and was so well-behaved.  To say the least, he fell in love with her.

So fast forward to 2017 and newly married, I told my husband that I had always wanted to raise Border Collies. Do you know what he said?  He said, “Let’s do it! Start looking for a male and female.”  Really? I was so surprised and happy. From there, we bought our first male and female and our program, Double V Ranch, was born!

Along the way, we learned just how important it is to health test our dogs before we start breeding. It's critical to know what health issues your breed can carry, and as a responsible breeder it is our duty to not continue to carry on those health issues through breeding. We have worked hard to have a clear line of dogs and are pleased at what we have accomplished. I'm usually the one that helps the momma’s whelp, and I am the caretaker after the puppies are born. It truly brings me joy to watch those puppies grow and see their personalities start to develop. I love interacting with them and teaching them.

But it’s not just a business, it’s our life and our love. They are more than just dogs to us - they are family.  We have learned so much together about the breed, about raising puppies, and about being responsible breeders to the Border Collie breed. We love the whole process of breeding pups and finding great homes for them, and we truly love Border Collies because they are such a great breed. We also love our customers and seeing how our puppies grow and are loved in their new homes. It’s a great world, the Border Collie World.
