Good Dog is on a mission to make the world a better place for our dogs by supporting breeders, educating the public and promoting canine health. We are so inspired by Leader Dogs for the Blind, an organization that provides guide dogs for people who are blind or visually impaired, empowering them with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel. They accomplish this by maintaining an ethical breeding program with people who are passionate about responsible breeding practices, care, and training of guide dogs.

Learn More About Leader Dog

Leader Dog was founded in 1939 by members of the Uptown Lions Club of Detroit. The founders’ motivation to start Leader Dog was a fellow Lion, Dr. Glenn “Doc” Wheeler, who had lost his sight and wanted a guide dog. Leader Dog began on a small farm in Rochester Hills, Michigan and now occupies a 14-acre campus at the same location.

Leader Dog’s programs are designed to provide clients who are blind and visually impaired with the tools and training to reintroduce them to a life of confidence, safety and independence. Through Leader Dog’s full-range of services, including Guide Dog Training, Orientation & Mobility Training (white cane travel) and Summer Experience Camp, Leader Dog meets the mobility needs of their clients at every stage of their lives.

Leader Dog believes that everyone deserves a life of independence and mobility. All of Leader Dog’s services are provided free of charge to their clients, including travel in the U.S. and Canada, room and board, equipment and training. This means that no one is excluded from living their most fulfilling life due to lack of funds.
