Paying your Breeder

Always communicate and pay on Good Dog
From your first message to pickup day, keeping communication and payments on Good Dog is what keeps you protected.

If you move messages or payment outside of Good Dog before your dog goes home, you may lose the protections built in, including Payment Protection.

Here's how it works — and what to watch out for.

Why staying on Good Dog matters
Good Dog was built to make getting a dog safer and more secure. Our systems are designed to work when everything stays in one place.

  • When you communicate and pay on Good Dog, we can:
  • Maintain a secure record of your agreement
  • Monitor for suspicious activity or scams
  • Review what happened if there’s a dispute
  • Protect your payment through Good Dog Payment Protection
  • Step in to help if something goes wrong
Once communication or payment moves elsewhere, those protections may no longer apply.

How your payment is protected
When you pay through Good Dog, your transaction is covered by Good Dog Payment Protection.

If something goes wrong, our team can review your case, support your refund request, and help make it right in accordance with our Protection Terms.

If you pay outside of Good Dog, whether by cash, check, wire transfer, cash apps, or any other method, your payment is not covered and any issues would need to be resolved directly between you and the breeder.

If you're ever unsure about a payment request, pause and contact our team at help@gooddog.com before sending funds.

Keep your conversations on Good Dog
If you first connect with a breeder on Good Dog, communication should stay on Good Dog until your dog goes home.

Moving conversations to text, email, social media, or messaging apps before pickup can:

  • Make it harder for us to monitor for fraud
  • Remove the secure record of your agreement
  • Limit our ability to step in if something goes wrong
After your dog goes home, you and your breeder can communicate however you prefer. That said, we strongly recommend keeping any conversations related to payments, agreements, or early transition issues on Good Dog so we can continue to support you if needed.

If something feels off
If a breeder asks you to:
  • Pay outside of Good Dog
  • Move communication off-platform before pickup
  • Share sensitive financial information
Do not proceed. Report the message and contact our support team right away.

We're always monitoring activity on the platform, but if something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and reach out.
