Q: Great info Susan about deworming protocols for mom from day 40 to 2-5 days post whelping. My question: when dosing moms and pups at 3, 5, and 8 weeks, is it the same dosage as above, or regular dosage? (By the way, I raise Great Pyrenees, so very Large pups!) Thanks kindly for your excellent insight!

A: Thank you for your kind words! I am happy to help and share my experience. The worming protocol that I talked about the other week for pregnant girls is the low dose of 1cc per 8.8lbs of weight, using liquid SafeGuard 10% Fenbendazole, for approx. 25 days starting at day 40 of pregnancy. Then, the follow-up for post whelping worming is the regular dose of liquid SafeGuard 10% Fenbendazole, for 3 days, using a dose of 1cc per 2.2lbs which translates into 0.23cc per pound of body weight for both puppies and Mom. Post whelping I worm both puppies and Mom at the same time so that there is no re-infection of the parasites.
