I'm Gail B., the breeder behind Ableaim Whippets located in Apex, NC. Our goal is to breed healthy, beautiful, and well-socialized family pets. We are also very involved in sports with our dogs including conformation, agility, coursing, rally, obedience, and scent work. I am the Treasurer for the American Whippet Club, on the Board of Directors for the Cary Kennel Club, am the President for the Mid Atlantic Hound Association, and am an AKC Breeder of Merit.
Q. & A. with Gail
Why did you start breeding?
I have been involved with showing for years, and fondly recall the days in the ring with my kids rooting me on. Several years go by and my daughter, Jenny, was old enough to compete in Junior Showmanship. I told her she could pick which breed she wanted to show, and she suggested the Whippet. Jenny started her junior showing and later on wanted to show in the "real" ring. Soon, a second Whippet followed. Breedings from these two Whippet girls got our first champion and our first Top 20 competitor.
What makes your program special?
The majority of our dogs are sold solely as family companions, but we have been fortunate and allowed to show some of the ones sold close to our home to their championships. All our dogs undergo several health tests prior to breeding to ensure we are only making positive contributions to the breed. Our involvement in the show world speaks to the standards we breed our dogs by.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
