I'm Jenna C., the breeder behind Agra Australian Shepherds located in Hornell, NY. My dogs are bred with genetics and behavior at the front of my mind. My dogs are well-rounded family pets that can also go out and compete in multiple disciplines. They have great genetics behind them with multiple titles in AKC, ASCA, and UKC to demonstrate their multiple abilities.
Q. & A. with Jenna
Why did you start breeding?
I fell in love with the Australian Shepherd and to preserve the breed by giving people the option of owning a dog that was true to its breed standard and was genetically and mentally sound. I was lucky enough to find a mentor who showed me how to breed responsibly and ethically while also having dogs that are well rounded. My first litter in 2017 helped me fall in love with the whole process.
What makes your program special?
I breed my dogs with genetics and behavior at the front of my mind. I want my puppies to have long happy lives. My breeding dogs have all the genetic clearances. I also breed my dogs to preserve the breed, meaning that they are true to what they were originally bred for. They are well rounded great family dogs that are also great working dogs. I compete in shows to demonstrate that aspect of my breeding. My dogs and litters are raised in my family home. This includes introduction to my young son as well as various other animals on our hobby farm including horses, chickens, cats, goats, guinea pigs, and birds.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black, red merle, blue merle, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Agra Australian Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Australian Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
