I'm Cherie B., the breeder behind Ahava Afghan Hounds located in Georgetown, IN. My dogs are proven champions in the ring and in the hearts of their forever families. I have over 30 years of experience with this breed, and I study the pedigree, structure, and genetics of every dog prior to breeding. I offer top-quality Afghan Hound puppies for people who share the same love and passion I do for these wonderful dogs.
Q. & A. with Cherie
Why did you start breeding?
Breeding beautiful healthy dogs has always fascinated me. I love studying pedigrees and staying true to the AKC standard. Staying true to the history of what an Afghan Hound is requires a lot of hard work and dedication. The preservation of this breed is of utmost importance, as breeders see their numbers declining every year.
What makes your program special?
Health and temperament is the highest priority in my breeding program. Dogs bred have achieved their AKC CH title and have been health tested before breeding. My breeding dogs live in a family environment. I love what I do and truly want the very best for my puppies and their forever families.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Dentition
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
OFA/CHIC DNA Repository
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
