I'm Jonna M., the breeder behind Ahnenwätcher GSD located in Pine Bush, NY. My goal upon getting into the breed is diversity between the long and stock coat working line dogs, following strict goals for health and temperament stability above all else while following the SV standard on structure, form and function before any beauty contests. Thanking my mentor and the years of study and research to guide me along, finding good foundation stock, following strict personal health testing guidelines for SV (plus OFA prelim/finals) for Hips, Elbows, LTV, Embark DNA, Cardiac, Dentition, and soon thyroid testing. My goal for raising puppies is to give them the best leg up through ENS, ESI, and other expensive exposure and fundamental training foundations (starting leash training, obedience shaping, and crating) early on to instill confidence between breeder home and their forever home. Soon we will add the Teddy Roosevelt Terriers as our second breed of choice!

Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding when I saw that things were not so black and white when it came to dogs, shelters, rescue and breeding. There was a vast difference in Back yard breeders vs ethical breeders and the impact on temperaments and health for working dogs for a purpose, or just a quality pet. I was someone who first hand was devastated by the poor health of a BYB dog and saw what happened to puppies from poor breeding in shelters, in our program training for the disabled and failure rates of shelter dogs vs ethically bred dogs. I wanted to be a part of that. Dogs that a breeder will stand behind, health tested, and stable. A breeder who will take their dogs back if it didnt work out, but also place them priperly do the sucess rate is far higher, and if the need arose, not hesitate to also help foster a displaced dog.
What makes your program special?
Honesty and transparency will be the cornerstone of my program. Going above and beyond the average health testing criteria and raising of puppies for sound, stable and healthy dogs. Complete transparency in how and where my dogs are raised, and honesty on anything of concern later discovered in a line after the fact. Shared knowledge and lifetime support.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include stock and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include sable, black, black and tan, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Getting a puppy from Jonna

Jonna partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

Puppy prices include a $500 non-refundable deposit and between $1,500 - $2,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Limited registration, pet home or breeding home, criteria for breeding must be met to lift to full. Puppy pack/bag, vaccinations records, record copies of health testing of parents, owner transfer. Price is based on pet home vs sport/breeding home. Deposit gives placement of pick, however breeder picks pup based on best home fit to ensure a solid fit in a home.”

About Lachlan
Lachlan is an upcomind stud. High energy, moderate to high drive goof. He enjoys training anything that involves a game or tug but works just as well for a food reward. He is training to be a Task trained Service Dog and later, a Therapy dog. We currently compete in Rally and obedience with plans for Scent work, Agility and fast cat opportunities, and an intro to dock jumping in summer.

About Riska
I got Riska about 2 years ago and it had been wonderful having her in my home. I have been training to add more titles. Aside from what she has now we are needing more legs for her CD, and her BN. Then she has 1 pass for her ATT and one pass for her ACT1J. She is very aloof, very handler oriented, and loves to please. She learns fast just about anything you ask her to do. She is a fun and flashy obedience dog. Neutral toward dogs and people and just about everything else I have exposed her to.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
