Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Akiyama no Roushya located in Oregon City, OR. I focus on breeding Kishu Ken and Shikoku Ken to the Nihon Ken Hozonkai (NIPPO) standards. Our Kishu Ken and Shikoku Ken are proven, titled, and tested. We are the ONLY known Kishu Ken & Shikoku Ken breeder in the USA to AKC, UKC, NIPPO, & FCI register our puppies.

Q. & A. with CJ

  • Why did you start breeding?

As a serendipitous accident. I was sent an adult female Kishu Ken who was supposed to be infertile and she came to me pregnant. Rearing the puppies and translating/publishing information about the breed made me feel like I was doing something good by sharing these dogs with the world, and was an incredibly enriching experience I wanted to continue. I had my first planned litter 3 years later.
  • What makes your program special?

I investigate everything large & small and make health data available. I will never hide or suppress health data from the public database. I am the ONLY Kishu Ken and Shikoku Ken breeder in the USA (perhaps in the world) to maintain NIPPO, AKC, UKC, and FCI registration on my dogs and puppies. Whatever you want to do with your Akiyama no Roushya Kishu Ken or Shikoku Ken puppy, you can.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Shikoku puppies include red sesame, black sesame, sesame, black & tan, and red. Kishu Ken puppies include white, sesame, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
