I'm Angelina J., the breeder behind Alderwald German Shepherds located in Rathdrum, ID. I have spent years researching, learning, and continuing to grow my knowledge through mentorship with a professional dog trainer who has over 30 years of experience training military and working dogs. Temperament is extremely important in my program. I believe dogs should be confident, clear-minded, environmentally stable, and trustworthy — not fearful or overly cautious. Health is equally important to me. I care deeply about producing dogs that are not only beautiful, but structurally sound and capable of living healthy, fulfilling lives. Every dog in my program is loved abundantly and treated like family. I am committed to preserving and improving this incredible breed with responsibility, honesty, and dedication.

German Shepherd
About Tova
Tova has such a solid wonderful temperament and makes a wonderful and loyal companion. She’s been with me since she was a pup and is so much fun and easy to train, she loves going on adventures, hanging out with people, playing with any ball all day, but can also relax with me and enjoy down time in the house. She’s been nothing but a true joy to have by my side!
Excellent health testing
Excellent level
Alderwald German Shepherds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
