Meet the breeder

I'm Kate F., the breeder behind Alibi Sealyham Terriers located in Seattle, WA. Breeding and raising Sealys genuinely fuels my optimism. There’s a reason they’re affectionately called “Sillyham Terriers”—their charm, wit, and joy are impossible to resist. When I first traveled across the country to showcase my rare terrier, I discovered Sealyhams, fell instantly in love, and have never looked back. Raising puppies is a true passion. Few things make me happier than watching Alibi pups grow into smart, engaging, well-rounded Sealys—and hearing from families whose dogs brighten their homes, capture hearts, and become beloved companions. Our puppies are born in our kitchen, raised at our feet, and loved to the max. Alibi Sealyhams are healthy, well-tempered, and versatile companions—born and raised to feel just as comfortable sleeping in a tent as in a five-star hotel, taking road trips or neighborhood walks, and navigating with ease both the bustle of city life and the quiet of the countryside. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. References are available upon request.

Q. & A. with Kate

  • Why did you start breeding?

Sealyhams are a rare and historic breed, and I’m committed to helping preserve them for generations to come. With every litter, my focus is on producing exceptional companions by emphasizing breed type, structure, health, and temperament. Each breeding is planned with great care and intention, always aiming to produce puppies who not only honor their lineage but bring us even closer to the ideal Sealyham. To achieve this, we thoroughly research and evaluate potential sires—whether regional, national, or international—to find the best possible match for our girls. From the very first day, every Alibi pup is raised with love, socialization, and hands-on engagement so they grow to be affectionate, confident, and well-adjusted. Whether a pup becomes a cherished companion, a performance partner, or steps into the show ring, our priority remains the same: to give each one a strong foundation for a lifetime filled with love, adventure, and connection.
  • What makes your program special?

Alibi is a preservation breeder, committed to breeding responsibly and purposefully. As a preservation program, we hold ourselves to high standards of transparency, health, and lifelong support. This includes: Completing and publicly disclosing all recommended genetic testing on our dams—and, whenever possible, on the sires we use. Ensuring our Sealyham dams hold CHIC certifications, and pursuing the same for sires whenever available. Staying current on best practices in reproductive research, as well as the most effective, evidence-based approaches to puppy care and early development. Working closely with experienced reproductive veterinarians for every breeding. Providing licensed veterinary care for every pup from birth, with full records available. Sending each puppy home with a completed AKC registration and a registered ISO microchip—no additional fees required. Placing pups thoughtfully, based on our daily observations, our experience, and evaluations completed by trusted professionals, while also considering each family’s needs and preferences. Standing behind every Sealy we breed, offering support from the moment you take your puppy home and for the lifetime of your dog. And, if circumstances ever change, we will always welcome an Alibi Sealyham back—at any age, for any reason. (Health-testing results are publicly available through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals: www.ofa.org.)
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white and lemon, white and tan, white and badger, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

Instead, we keep a puppy interest list, which allows us to update interested families about upcoming breedings and planned litters. Our priority is always to share Sealyham Terriers with families who will provide excellent, lifelong homes. We extend offers to place a pup at approximately 4 weeks old. We begin offering placements when puppies are between 4 and 6 weeks old. At that time, families receive a Deposit Agreement along with a copy of our Purchase Contract for review. To secure a puppy, the Deposit Agreement must be signed and the deposit submitted. Deposits are generally refundable, and in the rare situations where they are not, those circumstances are clearly outlined in the Deposit Agreement itself. We welcome and encourage open discussion about the contract so families feel fully informed and comfortable. Final contracts are signed at the time of puppy pick-up.”
