Meet the breeder

I'm Amy L., the breeder behind Allegiance Portuguese Water Dogs located in Beverly Hills, FL. We breed for health, temperament, and mental and physical soundness. We follow the Puppy Culture protocol and are very active in our breed clubs. We work hard to make sure our puppies are in the homes their personality and activity level matches. This is a working breed and a PWD needs a job.

Q. & A. with Amy

  • Why did you start breeding?

I started out looking for a working breed at a dog show. I was drawn to Newfoundlands and bought a puppy from a reputable breeder who became one of my first mentors, in the 1990s. She received her Championship title, I health tested her at 2 years old. Under the tutelage of my mentors, I whelped my first litter and then fell in love with dog shows, and eventually the Portuguese Water Dog.
  • What makes your program special?

We breed for health, temperament, mental, and physical soundness. We evaluate our breeding dogs honestly. Our pups are raised on Puppy Culture, are well-socialized, and placed in strictly vetted homes. We only select to breed our best PWDs to move forward. We place all pets on spay and neuter contracts with limited AKC registration. Our two children are AKC juniors and work with our dogs and pups
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
