Meet the breeder

I'm Stefanie D., the breeder behind Alpenglow Alaskan Malamutes located in Iowa City, IA. We breed AKC Alaskan Malamutes with the goal of producing healthy physically and mentally sound puppies. Every one of our puppies is a family pet above all else, but we occasionally have show & working prospects. We use the Alaskan Malamute Club of America’s breed standard as our guide.

Q. & A. with Stefanie

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have been enamored with dogs my entire life. I’ve always had a passion for well-bred dogs and approaching breeding in a thoughtful way - utilizing what science has given us (health testing, best practices for puppy and momma care) to produce well-balanced dogs. I think of it as a duty to use my drive, passion, skills, and knowledge to preserve and contribute to the amazing history of the breed.
  • What makes your program special?

We stand behind our puppies and will always be present for the entirety of their lives. We want to support you and your puppy in any way we can; puppy owners become a part of our family. A puppy from us is more than just a furry friend - you are also getting someone to consult for any questions at all, general guidance, management / training advice, and someone to share silly photos with.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable and white and gray and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

“We live and breathe our puppies from birth until they're in your arms on their way to their new home - we consider the consistencies in personality and temperament as each puppy develops week-to-week. While all of our puppies make for fabulous family companions, this attention to detail is especially helpful for those wanting to show or work their puppy/dog.”
