I'm Kady H., the breeder behind Alpenglow Amstaffs located in Elizabeth City, NC. I am a small, hobby breeder focusing on producing happy, healthy companions and show/performance Amstaffs. My priority is to produce amazing representatives of the breed, and I focus on health, temperament, soundness, and conformation.
Q. & A. with Kady
Why did you start breeding?
I wanted an all-around, "do everything" kind of dog that was also flashy, pretty, and a great family dog. I landed on the Amstaff. My own dogs compete and are titled in AKC conformation. I am so happy to be able to share these wonderful dogs with other loving families and individuals.
What makes your program special?
I am a small kennel, so only keep a select few dogs at a time. All of my dogs are raised in my home as part of the family, and I expect the same from any of my puppy owners. My goal is to produce happy, healthy, and sound dogs that are great breed ambassadors. I have high expectations for my puppies and strive to place each one in an enriching and loving home!
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Alpenglow Amstaffs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for American Staffordshire Terriers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 4A (NCL4A), American Staffordshire Terrier Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
