I'm Mike W., the breeder behind Alte Baum Kennel located in Fort Dodge, IA. Our dogs are bred for health, temperament, and ability. We strive to produce beautiful and versatile beloved companions. Our dogs are excellent in every way, and we are proud to continue their line. We breed both to provide families with loving and capable companions and to improve upon our dogs' fantastic traits with each generation.

What makes your program special?
We breed entirely with imported German Working line dogs that have been titled in IGP, certified hips, elbows and spine and temperament tested. We are very selective about what we breed and who gets our puppies.What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include plush and stock coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

“This price includes multiple dewormings, the first vaccination and AKC papers. We also provide a written health guarantee and training advice. If you are local to the area and want to pursue obedience or IGP we also provide assistance with that. 20% required to hold puppy.”

Alphy is a female German Shepherd. Carefully selected as a great representative of her breed, Mike decided to make her part of their program. Mike has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.
Parent health testing
Excellent level
Alte Baum Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shepherds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
