I'm Mike W., the breeder behind Alte Baum Kennel located in Fort Dodge, IA. Our dogs are bred for health, temperament, and ability. We strive to produce beautiful and versatile beloved companions. Our dogs are excellent in every way, and we are proud to continue their line. We breed both to provide families with loving and capable companions and to improve upon our dogs' fantastic traits with each generation.

  • What makes your program special?

    We breed entirely with imported German Working line dogs that have been titled in IGP, certified hips, elbows and spine and temperament tested. We are very selective about what we breed and who gets our puppies.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

    Our puppies include plush and stock coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include sable, black, black and red, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Getting a puppy from Mike

Mike has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Price

Puppy prices include between $1,800 - $2,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“This price includes multiple dewormings, the first vaccination and AKC papers. We also provide a written health guarantee and training advice. If you are local to the area and want to pursue obedience or IGP we also provide assistance with that. 20% required to hold puppy.”

Contract & health guarantee

Mike may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Temperament Test

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
