Altpalme Dandie Dinmont Terriers

I'm Patrick B., the breeder behind Altpalme Dandie Dinmont Terriers located in Greenwood, SC. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is an ancient terrier breed native to the border region of England and Scotland. It is likely the oldest named terrier, and had been breeding true to type since at least 1800 when a description of these wonderful dogs was given in the book Guy Mannering. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club is the second oldest breed club in existence, surpassed in age only by the Bulldog Club The breed is affectionate and loyal. Their coat is a mixture of soft and hard hair that doesn't shed. I breed dogs for myself - when I need another crop of show dogs - or when I see a sire that I want to incorporate into my line. I am extremely particular about what dogs I choose to breed, and who I breed to. My primary focus is breed type/silhouette, soundness of mind and body, and temperament. We always breed with an eye towards heath, and all of my breeding girls have CHIC numbers and are listed on OFA. We routinely do gonioscopies to assess eye health. I have shown all over the south and east, from Montgomery County Kennel Club in Pennsylvania to the AKC National Championships in Orlando to our National Specialty in St. Louis. I'm March of 2025 I was honored to see a dog I bred shown in the green carpet of Crufts in the UK. The year before I was honored to have not one but two dogs invited to Westminster Kennel Club by having them place in the top five of the breed for the entire year.
