Meet the breeder

I'm Sally C., the breeder behind Altvater German Shepherds located in Wellington, GA. We breed to preserve what is good and improve the breed where we can. Our dogs are bred for quality, not quantity. Health, temperament, versatility, and working ability are our focus whether a working K9, competitive sport dog or active family companion.

Q. & A. with Sally

  • Why did you start breeding?

It was a childhood dream of mine turned reality that has taken my whole adult life to study, be mentored, and learn to do what I feel is the right way. I’ve had many dogs before I thought would be “the ones”, but didn’t make the cut and then finally had what I felt was the right pair to make my dream a reality.
  • What makes your program special?

I do not have puppies often. All breedings are planned very far in advance to ensure the dogs are breed worthy, I can financially support the mother and litter, and that both myself and potential puppy buyers have plenty of time to get to know one another so I know it is a good fit. I do not just want to “sell puppies”, I am selling lifelong partnerships.
  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Our puppies have stock coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include sable, black, black and tan, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
