I'm Susan B., the breeder behind Ambush Kennel located in New Windsor, MD. We value responsible breeding practices and want to do our part to ensure the English Setter and Chinese Crested will continue to thrive. We built our program with care and intention in every step. We are passionate about the health and wellbeing of this breed, and it is our goal to provide each dog that comes from our program with a solid foundation of good health, neurological development, and loving care.

Why did you start breeding?
We started out in 1984 with Rottweilers and Cocker Spaniels, then we discovered English Setters in the early 90’s and fell in love. We are now on our sixth generation of champion English setters from our original stock.What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Chinese Crested puppies include powderpuff and hairless coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our English Setter puppies include blue belton and tan (tri-color), orange belton, and blue belton. Chinese Crested puppies include pink, palomino, chocolate, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

Program update on 18 Mar •…Sapphire & Opal are now available! We have decided not to pursue a show career since neither puppy enjoys large crowds, preferring, a nice lap and a sofa!

Litter update on 18 Dec 2025 •…Nine weeks already!! They have received their first distemper/parvo vaccine as well as Bordetella and have been microchipped! They are active and vocal and tons of fun!

Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Primary Lens Luxation (PLL)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
