Arbeitshunde German Shepherds

Brooke L.

Breeder of German Shepherds

Meet the breeder

I'm Brooke L., the breeder behind Arbeitshunde German Shepherds located in Hopkinsville, KY. I have made it my mission to include in my breeding program well-rounded dogs who have a great temperament, strong drive, solid nerves, and the ability for a professional working environment or personal companionship.

Q. & A. with Brooke

  • Why did you start breeding?

Arbeitshunde German Shepherds was my lifelong dream. I am a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and current K9 handler for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team. The love of the German Shepherd breed is in my blood, beginning with my great-great-great-grandfather, Alexander Baxter. When I was a young child I fell in love with the breed but had to wait until adulthood to pursue my dream. I adopted my first shepherd mix when I was 21, setting the stage for my eventual pursuit of training and breeding. After a long illness that debilitated me for some time, I purchased my first working dog and began training her for Animal-Assisted Therapy. Through the training process, I found that much of the lingering health issues I was suffering from as a result of my illness would begin to fade away.
  • What makes your program special?

We are not a large kennel where our dogs live outside. Each of our dogs is very much a part of our family and live with us inside our home. There they are exposed to normal daily activities and are well accustomed to the comings and goings of neighbors and friends. In our breeding program, we strive to produce and preserve the quality and traits of what we believe the working German Shepherd should have. Arbeitshunde only selects for their breeding program dogs who have been health tested, come from good bloodlines, and would not only be suitable for professional work but would also make wonderful family companions.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
