I'm Katey D., the breeder behind Barbihaus Kennels located in Centreville, MD. We breed dogs with drive and stability to be able perform across a broad spectrum of working jobs from police, sar to service work and everything in between. Our labs do thrive in active pet homes as well. The malinois are for working homes only.
Q. & A. with Katey
Why did you start breeding?
Trying to find a good well rounded Malinois seemed to Be impossible. I created a goal in my head and we’ve been striving to reach it since. We’ve since spread to shepherds and labradors as they were just as hard to find
What makes your program special?
We have produced the youngest dog to ever title in protection sport. We have dozens of dogs in police and sport. We also donate several dogs a year to different non profit organizations or departments that are underfunded.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Labrador Retriever puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Today the puppies got to go outside and play in the snow and of course get dirty! They had a blast until they got wet so inside they came to dry off in the heat.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Great level
Barbihaus Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Belgian Malinois.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Full Embark Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
