Meet the breeder

I'm Gio C., the breeder behind Barnwood Doodles located in Shushan, NY. Our motto is: you get out what you put in. With that in mind, we have dedicated our lives to our dogs and pour ourselves into each litter that we raise. We strive to produce the healthiest puppies with the best possible genetics and temperament.

Q. & A. with Gio

  • Why did you start breeding?

I grew up breeding Rottweilers as a child, and was always fascinated by it. I loved helping my parents care for puppies and watching them grow. Seeing the joy that a new puppy brought the different families that would come to our home really stuck with me. When my wife and I finally purchased a home of our own I was elated to have a space to establish my own breeding program.
  • What makes your program special?

Dedication defines our program. We live by the motto: you get out what you put in. We have designed our lives around our dogs to give both mom and puppies the best life possible. We both work part time and design our schedules so that someone is home with the dogs at all times. You will not find kennels on our property, all of our dogs are beloved family pets that share our home with us.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include miniature and medium sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, red, black, and parti. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

Working with Gio was a positive experience for my family. The process was easy for us once we found Gio and Opal's littermates. Opal, or Evie as she is now called, is thriving with us and growing up so fast! She loves playing with her bernedoodle "cousin", Savannah often.

As first time puppy owners, my boyfriend and I had a lot of questions. Gio was so responsive, knowledgeable, helpful. He was easy to get in touch with and answered all our questions. I was comforted looking at Barnwood Doodles’ Instagram account - you can tell Gio and his family are good people and really love and care for the puppies, and it shows through the happy, loving puppy we brought home!

Within 30 minutes of showing interest in a pup Gio hopped on the phone, introduced himself, asked about me, and gave me all of the important information I needed in making my decision. He wasn’t trying to just make the sale, he wanted to make sure the puppies would be going to good homes where they would be cared for and loved. Too many times other breeders wouldn’t show parents, would threaten “missing out on the puppy” unless you bought now, and would make you feel bad for not choosing them. Gio was the opposite. He was very transparent, the process was smooth, and our whole extended family fell in love with what almost felt like hourly instagram updates of the puppies and their development. He was always reachable, and even after taking Ranger (previously Asiago) home, he is still reachable. Would rate my experience a 10/10, and wouldn't think for a second to go anywhere else if we were to think to expand in the upcoming years!

Our Charlie (Pearl) is such an amazing puppy, I'm sure because of her start with Gio and his family. Gio was so knowledgeable about the breed and always shared updates and pictures. Whenever I had questions he was always available and helpful. You can tell they love the puppies so much and took such good care of them. Gio made the whole process so easy! We can't thank you enough for the joy you've brought to our family with Charlie!

Gio and his wife were great to work with! I loved watching their updates about the pups prior to picking up our Hadley! The process was a great experience start to finish and we couldn't be happier with our sweet, loving doodle!
