As a retired small animal Veterinarian, it was important to me that the puppy I bring home is healthy and fully screened for genetic diseases. When I started looking for a Chinese Crested Powder Puff puppy, I wanted to make sure the puppy was not only well loved in the breeders home, but also that the parent dogs were genetically tested for the various health issues that can cause a lifetime of suffering in the Chinese Crested breed. I looked all over the U.S. for responsible breeders, and found very few who did the genetic testing. The fact that Bonnie is a retired Vet technician and had the full genetic work up done, put my mind at ease. The genetic testing done included: * Primary Lens Luxation (PLL): A painful and blinding eye condition common in the breed. * Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA-prcd & PRA-rcd3): Genetic DNA tests that screen for degenerative eye diseases leading to vision loss. * Patella Evaluation: Knee testing to reduce the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation (dislocated kneecaps). * Cardiac Exams: Screening for congenital heart issues. Communication with Bonnie Smith was timely and thorough. It was obvious she is very knowledgable and is careful to make sure her puppies get the best health care. These puppies are in her home, along with the parent dogs, so they get frequent attention and socialization. Bent Oak Chines Crested is definitely NOT a puppy mill. My puppy came home ready to love. He was healthy, curious and happy. I am thrilled to have him in my life and my home. I would recommend Bonnie Smith and her Bent Oak Chines Crested puppies to anyone looking for a happy, healthy, beautiful Chinese Crested.

Bonnie was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was responsive and communicative and I had peace of mind throughout the entire process. She went above and beyond and made extra effort to make the pick up as convenient as possible as I was traveling from three states away. I had recently lost a dog of 17 years and looking for a new dog was an incredibly emotional experience for me and she was professional yet empathic to my situation. She also made sure to answer any questions I had after the pickup and you can tell she truly cares about making sure they go to a good home. I could not be happier or say enough good things about Bonnie and Bent Oak!

After losing our Chinese Crested Powderpuff of almost 12 years to liver cancer and a stroke a couple weeks ago, we decide to adopt a crested puppy. We came across our new dog on the Good Dog app. I started corresponding with the breeder, Bonnie, about one of her puppies named Porter. Bonnie was absolutely incredible with her knowledge, experience and education on breeding various types of puppies. We became instant friends, her kindness and gentle nature relaxed our fears of getting a puppy after all these years. We couldn’t be happier with our new pup, he’s such a love!! We will continue to send photos of our pup to Bonnie, so she can see how the little guy is coming along. Bonnie carefully screens potential adopters, looking for an appropriate fit for the puppy as well as their new owners. We are so thankful for the wonderful job she did with the puppies!!
