I'm Laura B., the breeder behind Bidwell Knight Shepherds located in Chico, CA. Bidwell Knight Shepherds are from West German Showlines with emphasis on health and temperament. My dogs are my family pets and live indoors with us.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I bred Boston Terriers but after having my dam undergo two c-sections I retired her. After that I took my time to research and plan so that I could have high quality dogs with long lifespans, starting with a new breeding pair of German Shepherd Dogs in 2020.

  • What makes your program special?

    I am breeding West German Show Lines GSD to have big bones, stable temperaments and excellent health. I spare no expense to ensure the health of my dogs, and DNA test through Embark and get OFA certification for hips. I proudly stand behind my dogs with lifetime support for them and their owners.

  • What are the different breed coat types in your program?

    Our puppies include stock and long coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies are black and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Laura

Puppy prices include a $250 non-refundable deposit and between $1,250 - $2,250 final payment, before taxes & fees.

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

    Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    This one is the fourth pedigreed GSD puppy we’ve had over last 38 years (in addition to multiple mature rescues). If you are looking for your first GSD puppy, Laura is very knowledgeable breeder and lovely lady. Communications/responsiveness was outstanding. What I really like about Laura’s puppies is that they have spent their first 8 weeks being socialized in a family residence with both their Sire and Dam. It took this puppy less than a day to lose all her fear of our 9 year-old male.

    Laura was so awesome, I've been researching for months and months and months trying to find a good ethical breeder that would actually talk to me instead of shutting me down when I mention I live in an apartment. I reached out after tons of research and opinions from doctors for a service prospect and not only did she keep in mind what I needed and what I wanted but also told me what she thought would work best. Keeping in mind my first choice for a puppy and also giving me other options she thought would work well. I feel so secure knowing that for whatever reason something did happen I would have her support. Dio is a fantastic boy so far and I'm so excited to grow with him with Laura's support.
