Meet the breeder

I'm Bruce F., the breeder behind Birchhurst NC Kennels located in Durham, NC. We have been working for 60 years to develop the kind of disposition that I want in a Wire Fox Terrier. I want a sweet, loving and affectionate dog - one that has a great intelligence and is a member of the family. Birchhurst has adopted the most rigorous genetic screening program available today.

Q. & A. with Bruce

  • Why did you start breeding?

I was born with a Wire Fox Terrier in my bed and there has been one there ever since. We have always bred Wires and only Wires. Our whole family is committed to helping people find the best most loyal Wires available.
  • What makes your program special?

Birchhurst is a Kennel like no other. Some kennels are show kennels. They care about looks and wins but place less importance on personality and temperament. Other breeders focus more on the pet market. Birchhurst has straddled the line ensuring our Wires can and do win in the show ring but never compromising on the personality and temperament which makes them such wonderful family members.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
