I'm Kurt D J., the breeder behind Blanco River Field Golden Retrievers located in Wimberley, TX. BRFGR is fully committed to producing puppies who retain the Health & ideals of this exceptional breed. We've built our program with care and intention in every step. Going beyond fulfilling ALL Health requirements to temperament, confirmation and capabilities, our pups will make stellar family pets and loyal companions in the field, whether it be hunting at your side or field trial competition. We are passionate about the health and wellbeing of our dogs, and it is our goal to place each puppy in a like-minded home.
Q. & A. with Kurt D
Why did you start breeding?
My whole adult life has included living with working class dogs. Interestingly, my desire was born after watching our first 9-week-old Field Golden consistently retrieve a newspaper after receiving a initial instruction (see video www.BRFGR.com). Remarkably, 3 years later that desire has turned full commitment, motivated by the Field Bred Golden's loving spirit, loyalty and companionship both inside and outside the home.
What makes your program special?
No doubt the willing mentorship I've received from long-standing breeders committed to maintaining best practices for ALL HEALTH requirements and ideals of this breed places BRFGR in a very special position to be an asset to their efforts. Realizing the 'pool' of well-bred traditional Field Bred Goldens still remains small, it motivates us even further for others to have the opportunity to experience this exceptional breed as well. *Please see all attached OFA health certificates / Clearances / BRFGR Guarantees under 'Mom & Dad' before you get too excited about puppy pictures ☺️. BRFGR is adamant about showing you our breeding efforts ‘up front’ in trying to make sure your puppy's health allows him / her to be part of your family for a long time. ☺️
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are dark golden. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Bear
Miss Bear is our young good-looking girl that truly has the qualities of both the very loving and attentive 'show' golden in the home, as well as the hard hitting focused golden while working in the 'field'. Her non-distracted calculated work ethic is truly a sight to behold as she applies a highly sensitive nose, memory and amazing water entries to retrieve marks on land and above and below the water's surface.

Kurt has an amazing love and respect for golden retrievers. He is very knowledgeable in proper upbringing and care for both field intentions and companion intentions.
After selecting Kurt and waiting for my puppy to get old enough to pick up, Kurt was a great resource for success of the puppy in my specific home (cats, remote work, etc) but also shared the same level of excitement as I had. Also, he sent videos and pictures of the puppies near daily.
After picking up my puppy, I really appreciated Kurt continually following up to ensure myself, the cats, and the puppy are doing well. He has continued to do so even 1 month following and is a great pillar of support for the new adjustment of having puppy.
Despite being part of his first litter, it has not felt like Kurt's first time being a breeder. His knowledge, care, and preparedness have been outstanding and I would highly recommend Kurt to anyone wanting a golden retriever for field or companionship.

BRFGR is fantastic. They were so informative and kept us all up to date throughout the whole process. They're such an amazing family. The communication was stellar and they always made time to answer any and all questions.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
