Meet the breeder

I'm Barbara H., the breeder behind Briarroot Kennel located in Darby, MT. We are breeders who do everything we can to better the breed and ensure our dogs and puppies are able to get the very most out of life. We breed sound, healthy dogs to the breed standards and raise them carefully to make lifelong companions. Finding the perfect home for each puppy is extremely important to us.

Q. & A. with Barbara

  • Why did you start breeding?

A few years ago I discovered Otterhounds. They are a rare breed with a small gene pool. I researched the possibility of breeding my girls, found a mentor in the breed, and here we are—learning and enjoying! We have since added a second breed to our kennel- Basset Fauve de Bretagne.
  • What makes your program special?

Most puppies will live in pet homes. I believe pet owners really want dogs that are easy to live with, healthy, and have a good chance to live long vibrant lives. We breed sound dogs to the AKC standard but always with that in mind.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.
