Meet the breeder

I'm Karen S., the breeder behind Bristle Ridge Llewellins located in Warrensburg, MO. At Bristle Ridge Llewellins, we produce top-quality Llewellin Setters for the love of the breed, there is no other way to describe it.

Q. & A. with Karen

  • Why did you start breeding?

Our first Setter was sent to be bred, but she didn't take. Instead of a refund, we received a male puppy. We were hooked on hunting with more than one dog. We waited a few years for pick of the litter from a specific dog. After showing that our newest female had what we were looking for, we found a stud that would compliment her traits. We began purchasing more females from Shoeleather kennels, and began to build our own breeding line.
  • What makes your program special?

Almost all of our dogs originate from Shoeleather Kennels. Mr. Joe Noe has been very kind in helping us learn about the breed, teaching us the importance of conformation and proper breeding practices. Looking through our dogs' pedigrees, you will find they go back heavily to the old King Kennel of Arkansas. Genetic diversity is very important in breeding purebred dogs. We use UCDavis for all of our genetic testing.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
