I'm Doug B., the breeder behind Broadstrider Whippets located in Hillsborough, NC. Our involvement with whippets goes back 40 years. We have participated in various activities with our dogs, but our main interest has always been in conformation showing. We feel that in breeding and raising puppies we must do all health testing required of parents and provide the best enviroment.
Q. & A. with Doug
Why did you start breeding?
After showing for several years with increasing success, we were encouraged by our mentors to begin a breeding program. We found that we enjoyed the entire process - from identifying a sire that complements our female, to whelping the litter, and especially training and socializing the puppies.
What makes your program special?
Our breeding program is on a small scale with, on average, no more than one litter a year. We can give plently of time and attention to our puppies. We love whippets and they are an important part of our home and life. We enjoy meeting our puppy buyers and have kept in touch with many of them over the years.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
