I'm Jeffrey B., the breeder behind Brotherton Family Farms located in Marysville, OH. Our dogs are bred for personality, stability and intelligence. We seek to provide working dogs that are loving companions to their "flock" whether livestock or family.
Q. & A. with Jeffrey
Why did you start breeding?
I started with livestock guardians when first acquiring our farm and suffering high predator losses in our chickens. I got a Great Pyrenees and found that the pure bred was patrolling out to 2 miles. I transitioned to Anatolian Pyrenees cross and found they stayed much closer to home. Since that time neighbors asked for puppies and I bred one litter. The rest is history. Everyone wants one!
What makes your program special?
I am a very low volume breeder so all my dogs get individual care and my puppies are brought up with individual attention.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in a kennel on my property.

Puppies are all doing great. They are all more than double birth weights. Their eyes are open, and they are trying to explore their world. They are not mobile enough to get out of the kennel house, but it won't be long. The grandkids are thrilled when they come to visit with some many puppies they each get several to cuddle.
Stay tuned for more pictures.

About Buddy
Meet Buddy – Our Proven Guardian Sire
Buddy is a 50/50 Anatolian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees cross, combining the strength, intelligence, and independence of the Anatolian with the gentle, loyal nature of the Pyrenees. This blend creates an ideal livestock guardian who’s both attentive in the field and affectionate with his people. He brings a calm confidence to the pasture and a friendly presence around the farm, making him a trusted and steady influence in our breeding program.
What sets Buddy apart is his exceptional demeanor. He’s incredibly well-balanced—protective without being overly aggressive, and social without being clingy. Buddy lives harmoniously with chickens, cats, and other dogs, respecting boundaries and coexisting peacefully with all creatures great and small. His easygoing nature makes him a joy to live with, while his strong guardian instincts ensure nothing gets past him unnoticed.
Buddy passes on his sound temperament, solid structure, and striking good looks to his offspring. His pups tend to be alert yet even-tempered, with a deep sense of loyalty and natural protective drive. Whether you’re looking for a working guardian for your livestock or a farm companion with a strong sense of duty, Buddy’s lineage delivers dogs that are intelligent, reliable, and built to thrive in both family and working environments.
Belle, mom
Anatolian Shepherd Dog
About Belle
Meet Belle – Our Seasoned Guardian and Mother Hen at Heart
Belle is our 6-year-old livestock guardian dog with the wisdom and patience of a seasoned protector. She lives full-time in the chicken run with her lifelong partner, Buddy, where together they watch over our flock with a steady, watchful eye. Belle is deeply bonded to her poultry and takes her role as guardian very seriously—never letting a feather be ruffled on her watch.
What makes Belle truly special is the way she raises her puppies among the chickens. From day one, her pups are immersed in the sights, sounds, and rhythms of flock life. Under her calm and consistent guidance, they learn that chickens are part of the family—not prey or playthings. She corrects overly rough behavior gently but firmly, and by the time her pups are weaned, they’ve already begun developing the respectful instincts that are so essential in a successful livestock guardian dog.
Belle is more than just a protector—she’s a teacher. Her maternal instinct is strong, and her influence leaves a lasting impression on each litter she raises. Whether you’re looking for a pup to join a farm with poultry, goats, or a mixed homestead, Belle’s babies start out with a head start thanks to her example. Her calm demeanor, strong guardian instincts, and poultry-savvy nature make her a cornerstone of our LGD program.
Lilly, mom
Anatolian Shepherd Dog
About Lilly
Meet Lilly – Our Gentle Guardian and Loving First-Time Mom
Lilly is a 2½-year-old full-blooded Anatolian Shepherd and the proud first-time mother of a beautiful litter of 11 pups—3 boys and 8 girls. True to her breed, Lilly brings a steady, good-natured presence to our farm. She’s calm, alert, and deeply bonded to her role as a livestock guardian. Watching her care for her newborns with quiet devotion has been a joy, and we’re excited to see this new generation begin to grow into the guardian legacy she so beautifully represents.
A Trusted Guardian and Gentle Companion
Lilly works side-by-side with her partner, an Anatolian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees cross, guarding a small herd of Scottish Highland cattle on our farm. She is respectful and gentle with the animals in her care, from cows to cats, and has a special affection for young children who visit. Her easygoing temperament and natural attentiveness make her a reliable protector and a delight to have around. She moves through her day with a kind of quiet confidence that’s become the hallmark of our livestock guardian team.
The Anatolian Shepherd Legacy
One of the oldest and most respected guardian breeds, the Anatolian Shepherd is known for its intelligence, independence, and fierce loyalty. These dogs are not just guardians—they are thoughtful, deliberate, and deeply connected to their environment. While Lilly’s pups are still just a few days old, they are off to a strong, healthy start under her care. We expect them to develop the classic Anatolian traits: calm, discerning, and devoted. Whether they grow into roles as working guardians or trusted family protectors, they carry the legacy of a breed built on centuries of steadfast service.

Jeff was wonderful to work with! I contacted him while the litter was still expected and he got in touch right away when the puppies were born. We had a couple of unforeseeable snags but worked through them easily and I ended up with a beautiful, sweet, and VERY soft little guy we named Leo. Great communication, honest, healthy and well-tempered puppy. He fit right in with our family, both human and 4-legged. Would definitely work with Jeff again if I was looking for another pup.
