I'm Monique A., the breeder behind Bucks County Setters located in Perkasie, PA. We strive for quality, health, temperament and the overall improvements toward the English Setter Standard. We work very closely with our dam and her pups to ensure they are meeting their milestones daily introducing age appropriate challenges to get their minds and bodies working.
Q. & A. with Monique
Why did you start breeding?
While working as a trainer, I had the pleasure of working with a local breeder. Through that, I was blessed with the privilege to become a "midwoof" to many dogs. I learned so much about the process of breeding; from progesterone test to labor and delivery, to raising puppies. What an amazing opportunity that I will always cherish. I bring all those years of experience with me to my program.
What makes your program special?
I am committed to only breeding dogs that meet the ESAA guidelines for health, temperament, and conformation. I incorporate “Puppy Culture” and "Badass Breeder" protocols. These programs ensure your puppy will have the best possible start, nutritionally, emotionally, physically. Check out our perfect match program on our website, we match our puppies with their perfect family.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include blue belton and tan (tri-color) and orange belton. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Good level
Bucks County Setters reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for English Setters.
Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Generalized, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 8 (NCL8), Australian Shepherd Type, Dominant Black DNA Test, Chondrodysplasia/Dwarfism, DNA Profile, DNA Coat/Trait Panel, Chondrodystrophy and IVDD Risk (CDDY-IVDD)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
