I'm Suzy L., the breeder behind Bushido Boerboels located in Lubbock, TX. Our high-quality puppies are the result of extensive research and thorough care for our outstanding dogs and puppies. We breed with a focus on health and temperament. We spend time socializing and training our pups so they will have a great foundation of good behavior and neurological development.

Why did you start breeding?
After spending years with dogs adopted from a shelter I decided I wanted predictable and specific attributes in a dog. I did extensive research on the attributes sought after; a large and loyal protector. I kept coming back to the boerboel. I fell in love with the breed immediately after a few weeks with my first boerboel pup and told my husband I would never want a different breed again.What makes your program special?
We love these dogs and they are raised as part of our family. We take our puppies outside of the home before they go to their new families to ensure maximum, controlled exposure to people, places, etc. They are also exposed to cats, poultry, and sometimes additional livestock animals before 8 weeks of age. Our puppies come with a puppy kit, purchase contract, and health guarantee.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include reddish brown, brown, cream, red, and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Puppy prices include a $500 deposit and between $2,500 - $4,500 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“Puppies come with tails docked, vet records, age appropriate shots, dewormed at 2-4-6-8 weeks, vet records, purchase contract and health guarantee, Bushido Puppy Welcome Kit, and a lifetime of breeder support! Deposits are only refundable if the sex of puppy applied for is not available from the litter. We do not guarantee color although we do our best to accommodate color preference.”

About Athena
Athena is a boerboel with star-like qualities and the foundation of our program. Her bright yellow eyes have a way of looking directly into your heart and soul. Never have I experienced a dog be so in tune and emotionally connected to the ones she loves. There is truly something special about her that brings a smile to people’s faces wherever she goes. She is structurally amazing, moves like a dream, and has a steady and predictable temperament. Athena is a purpose-driven, athletic boerboel, who loves to strut her stuff. On top of her already laundry-list of amazing qualities, she is a wonderful, attentive mother making our job easy when puppies arrive. Athena had the honor being the 2024 highest appraised female in Quinlan, Texas for the South African Boerboel Breeding Society appraisal and show achieving 88.1% SABBS appraisal score. She has produced 2 litters to date and from her first litter produced Bushido Henry Frederick- a stunning brindle male who won 1st place at the 2024 Boerboel Expo show in the 6-9 month category at only 8 months of age and 2nd in Sub Junior. We fully anticipate additional champions from future litters.

About Steel
Steel is a well mannered boerboel who proves true to his breed’s purpose while on property. We trust his temperament so much he is permitted full access to the puppy area by us and Athena alike. His favorite past time is romping in the backyard with Athena or some of our other Boerboels. His gorgeous red-brindle coat is a show stopped when we take him out in public and is truly a unique and beautiful coat color. He is fully registered and DNA profiled with SABBS and achieved an 86% appraisal score at his most recent appraisal event.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
