Meet the breeder

I'm Mary R., the breeder behind Chinnychinchinofsalem located in Salem, OR. We are lifelong dog enthusiasts, and we’re excited to share our passion and purpose with others through our breeding program. The sweet, loyal, and playful disposition of our dogs inspired us to begin responsibly breeding to expand the breed and share them with others. We offer the most current testing on our chins and want the best for the breed. We have DNA tested all of our dogs and we know their origin most the time.

Q. & A. with Mary

  • Why did you start breeding?

I had a friend that bred chins and I just fell in love with the breed. My friend taught me everything I know but I am still learning everyday. I was her under study for about 5 years. I learned all the tricks of the trade and raised several littters under her guidance.
  • What makes your program special?

My dogs live in my home with me and are handled from birth. They are raised in a home environment to give them the confidence that they need. I do my best to make sure that my pups get all their needs met. They are exposed to as much as possible before they go home. My kids love to play with them and brush their hair. I make sure my adults get health testing including DNA and all the babies get a vet check, 1st shot and wormed before going home!
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Japanese Chin puppies include white and black, sable and white, red and white, lemon and white, black tan and white, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I recently lost my Japenese chin, who was my trusted companion of over 11 years. Having had a member of this breed for nearly 35 years, I decided to try to find a new companion. Using the GoodDog app, I located a potential candidate at Chinnychinchin of Salem. I registered my interest in the pup through the app along with a brief bio of myself. Within hours, Mary from Chinnychinchin responded informing me my selection had already been allocated, but shared with me she had a litter mate that was bright, friendly, well adjusted, energetic and loved to play. Behaviors that fit my bio perfectly. I accepted Mary's recommendation and using the GoodDog app initiated the application. As I'm unable to travel, I asked Mary for the best way to get the pup to me and she recommended a pet transfer service. Another recommended I accepted. As part of the breeder service, the pup had its basic shots, a vet check-up, had been socialized, and was pee pad trained. Additionally, Mary made all the arrangements for the pet transfer service including checking on how the transfer was going and a follow-up after completion. She provided me the details on the pups diet and treats together with a copy of its vet report and the Nexgard Plus puppy kit for flea/tick/heartworm/general deworming prevention the vet prescribed. I have delt with many dog breeders over the past 50 plus years, but the service and care Mary and Chinnychinchin provided me is the best i've ever received, far beyond excellent and superior. I highly appreciate what they did for me and recommend them to anyone seeking a new canine companion.

Our family met a Japanese Chin at a friends house and fell in love having never met a dog of this breed. We reached out to Mary on good dog and Max was available. Mary was very responsive and answered all our questions and soon my husband was on a plane to get our adorable dog. It has been a week and he has brought great joy to our lives. The whole process was terrific and bonus that Max was pad trained when we brought him home! Papers, immunizations all in order and he didn’t bark on the plane! Highly recommend this breed and breeder! Thanks again Mary!
