I'm Elizabeth T., the breeder behind Coltsfoot located in West Glover, VT. Every dog we breed is health tested, and proven in ring and sport. Litters are planned with the intent of producing a show and performance puppy to keep. Health, socialization and temperament are paramount, because while not every puppy will be a show dog, each will be someone's beloved pet.
Q. & A. with Elizabeth
Why did you start breeding?
I bred my first litter of Pointers 45 years ago with a great mentor. Planning a litter is like sculpting with genetics, using your "eye" to imagine how a combination will work and then seeing it realized in flesh. Health, temperament, and working ability are equal parts of the equation. Then comes the best part -- watching the puppies grow and launching each one into its best life.
What makes your program special?
I believe that in addition to conformation, my dogs should do what they were originally bred to do. So showing, health testing, socialization, and proving temperament and instinct are integral to my program. Done right, it's expensive, but worth it!
I'm available for advice and support for the lifetime of each puppy. My carefully screened puppy owners are extended family -- often for life!
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Manchester Terrier puppies are toy size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Irish Water Spaniel puppies are liver. Manchester Terrier puppies are black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia (Preliminary), Hip Dysplasia

Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Serum Bile Acid Test, Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
