I'm Mara J., the breeder behind Copper Hill German Shepherds located in Wayne, ME. Our priority is bringing GSD from our home to yours that meet or exceed the standards in health, temperament, and composition. Previously known as Spruce Valley German Shepherds and under new ownership. All dogs are health tested to ensure that we continue to provide you with the same quality German Shepherd’s that Spruce Valley was known for producing for over 30 years.

Why did you start breeding?
We brought Kodak home from Spruce Valley German Shepherds in 2023 and immediately fell in love. After hearing that Spruce Valley was ending their breeding program in 2025 we dedicated ourselves to raising German Shepherd puppies in our home to continue bringing families their same great quality shepherds!What makes your program special?
Our dogs are family, raised in our home and enjoying the country life in Maine. They enjoy swimming at the lake, walks in the woods, mornings in the garden, naps by the fire, family movie nights and are there for every holiday with us. We’re able to bring you healthy well rounded GSD and have dogs who enjoy living life the way it should be.What are the different breed coat types in your program?

Mara has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Mara partners with them to find the best puppy match.
Price
“We require a $500 deposit that goes towards your final payment of 2500 plus tax. Puppies go home dewormed and vet checked with age appropriate vaccinations and a one year health guarantee.”

This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

I had the pleasure of working with Mara from Copper Hill German Shepherds to gift my daughter her favorite dog, for her 13th Birthday. Mara gave consistent updates on Gunner’s milestones and appointments. When it came to picking him up she worked with me to pick him up pending a coming snowstorm and met me half way. She has been an absolute pleasure to have met and work with, Gunner is in perfect health and adjusting well with his new family and we all love him dearly. Mara’s early training has help greatly with this frigid cold Gunner is potty trained to only go in his pads and has had few accidents. Again I can’t say how great it was working with Mara.

Mara was amazing! Great communication and very informative/sweet with information on her dogs and puppies! We really loved working with Mara and meeting her. She really took her time with the puppies, especially with potty time and introducing small commands! Our girl is just the sweetest and smartest. It was exceptionally well working with Mara. Her response time was really quick. We had no problem setting up a time and place to get our lovely boy “Terrain” who’s the best doggy EVERRRR!!!.
