I'm Diana P., the breeder behind Crossroads Otterhounds located in Deer Island, OR. We do all recommended health testing on our adult dogs, including CHIC certification. Puppies have blood drawn for the University of Missouri study, and we do Glanzmann's testing before they go to their new homes. Nearly all sires and dams are champions. Members of the Otterhound Club of America.
Q. & A. with Diana
Why did you start breeding?
Desire to diversity our genetic foundation in a rare breed for better health and breed longevity, while maintaining the breed standard to be competitive in the conformation ring.
What makes your program special?
Most of our adult dogs are CHIC certified. These tests are documented and are far more extensive beyond a normal veterinary check. One of my goals in my breeding program is to promote responsible breeding to ensure that the Otterhound will continue to move forward for generations to come. I am very dedicated with what I do and what I strive to achieve. I work with passion, heart, integrity, and truly want what's best for the Otterhound line.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include wheaten and black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Crossroads Otterhounds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Otterhounds.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia, Otterhound Type, OFA/CHIC DNA Repository
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
