Meet the breeder

I'm Darcy D., the breeder behind Dakota Shepherds Kennels located in Herrick, SD. We offer German Shepherds with amazing temperaments and easy-to-train personalities. We adore each and every one of our dogs! Our dogs all get their health clearances done and are bred to the standard as we aim to produce puppies who are as healthy as possible. Puppies are up-to-date on shots, dewormings, vet checks, and come with a puppy packet. All our dogs in are a heated/cooled indoor and outdoor building and also have a huge running area for exercise.

Q. & A. with Darcy

  • Why did you start breeding?

Always just loved animals and started about 20 years ago breeding Huskies and Elkhounds and have just loved placing puppies and making families happy. Switched to German Shepherds cause I just fell in love with the breed.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black seal, sable, black, black and cream, black and red, and bi-color. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

Darcy was amazing to work with. She was extremely responsive, answered all questions, and help setup everything to ensure our sweet Murphy made it to us. Being out of state and not local to her, I let her know about my family and what we would like in a dog- she paired us with our Murphy and I have to say he’s perfect. We have an almost two year old daughter and Murphy is extremely well behaved, has a wonderful temperament, and very patient with her. He is very loving and has expressed territory that he has claimed us as his people. We love him! I highly recommend Darcy and her shepherds. The bloodline she has raised with shepherds is outstanding. Murphy has shown us great qualities and understanding. Thank you so much Darcy!!

We had such a great experience with Darcy at Dakota Shepherds Kennels! Right from the beginning, she was super helpful, answering all of our questions and guiding us through the whole process. You can really tell she cares about her dogs. Our puppy came to us happy, healthy, and already so well-socialized. Darcy really knows her stuff, and she gave us a lot of useful tips on caring for and training our new pup, which made the whole transition much easier. We couldn’t be more pleased, and we definitely recommend Darcy and Dakota Shepherds Kennels if you’re looking for a well-bred, well-cared-for German Shepherd!
