Meet the breeder

I'm Danny G., the breeder behind Danube Kooikerhondjes located in Seattle, WA. My goal is to produce healthy, stable, & versatile companions that excel in sports & the show ring. Health, temperament, and structure will always be our priority. I am passionate about breed education! You can follow us on FB or IG - danubekooikers.

Q. & A. with Danny

  • Why did you start breeding?

My passion for the Kooikerhondje began as a young child browsing through dog breed books. I stumbled upon a beautiful little dog that I couldn't even pronounce. It wasn't until 2013 that I realized my dream of a Kooiker could come true! I did a ton of thorough research, browsed breeder websites, and finally got in contact with a wonderful breeder in Sweden for my (hopeful) foundation female.
  • What makes your program special?

We are committed to the preservation of the Kooikerhondje breed through careful pedigree and health matches to ensure genetic diversity while maintaining breed type and sound temperament. We are truthful about every aspect of the breed. The breed is not for everyone (they're not little goldens or larger cavaliers) and we want to make sure they'll be a perfect match for you and your family!
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Patellar Luxation

Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

  • Brucellosis

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Hereditary Necrotizing Myelopathy (ENM), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
