I'm James J., the breeder behind Dibu Basenjis located in Sea Tac, WA. The philosophy I follow in my breeding program is to produce a balanced dog that has good health, temperament, structure, intelligence, and type which will make for a good performance and companion dog. I bring back new Basenji founders from Africa to introduce new genes into the Basenji gene pool. My goal is to produce a great representation of the Basenji and to continue improving the line with each generation.
Q. & A. with James
Why did you start breeding?
I have had Basenjis since 1997 as pets and became interested in the imports brought into the U.S. from Africa in 1989. It was this interest in the original stock that got me to go on several trips to Africa to find dogs to bring back to the U.S. as breeding stock. It has been an absolute joy of a journey, and I am so happy to be able to share these wonderful dogs with other loving families and individuals.
What makes your program special?
I am focused on importing Basenjis from Africa and adding their new genes to the Basenji gene pool. I strive to breed healthy, quality pups that can fit any lifestyle. I take pride in raising well-tempered and socialized puppies who can excel in work, show, or as beloved companions.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include tri-color and red and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
