Doodles are Sunshine

Jennifer H.

Breeder of Goldendoodles

Meet the breeder

I'm Jennifer H., the breeder behind Doodles are Sunshine located in Urbana, IL. We hope to help families find their puppies from responsible and ethical sources to help build a better and safer world for our dogs. We decided to start a breeding program because of our passion for Goldendoodles! We have loved the entire process and are so glad to be able to provide other families and individuals with Doodles that will bring tons of love and joy into their lives!

Q. & A. with Jennifer

  • Why did you start breeding?

I decided to become a breeder out of a little business I have of long-term pet sitting. That is how I have been exposed to Goldendoodles and realized that they are pretty fabulous! My dog of choice was always an Australian Shepherd working dog class. But, these days I don't need that kind of super high energy helper anymore. I have fallen in love with a non-shedding family member! I am learning a lot from this new breed, and learning a lot more about the poodle side. Someday maybe I will own a poodle which is a phrase I never thought I would say, Never Say Never!
  • What makes your program special?

I feel my breeding program is special because my children are gone, living their own lives. Today I have furry children, not breeding dogs. My first mini Goldendoodle was given to me, because I helped deliver him. He had a deformed front leg so they offered him to me free. I thought about the offer for a month knowing that it would be a major lifestyle change. I decided to take him and he is literally my heart today! He has very special abilities that I've never seen in any of the pets I've had (which are many different kinds). And when Shrek (he watched the birth) and I picked our Ellie out (I delivered her litter for another breeder) she was exactly what we wanted in a second family member. Because of this her pregnancies and deliveries and raising for 8 weeks of these puppies are done together all three of us! We all work as a team even Shrek. I love researching her food intake and proteins and making her wonderful dinners with her kibble and proteins, vitamins, Etc. This is definitely not an endeavor to just make money off of an animal. The first week, we are all in the bedroom making sure the puppies are taken care of and safe from being crushed or anything else. When they go to their forever homes they are not only train in several different things, but they are spoiled with love! I even have select people that call and want to come over just to love on these puppies before they go. Well, I could say much more, but I will leave it at that. I have found out that the most fun part of breeding these puppies is getting to see the look on the new family's faces when they pick their puppy up! It is priceless and I cannot articulate well enough to give it justice on how it makes me feel.
  • What are the different breed sizes in your program?

Our puppies include petite and medium sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include cream, apricot, and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
