🐾 When Your New Puppy Suddenly Turns into a Little Tornado… 🌪️ If your sweet little puppy suddenly starts biting, chewing, or acting wild out of nowhere — chances are, it’s not “bad behavior”… it’s overtired behavior! Just like an overtired toddler who missed their nap, puppies can become cranky, mouthy, and full of unspent energy when they really just need some quiet time. 💤 Instead of more play or corrections, try gently redirecting their focus to something calm — a soft chew, some gentle petting, or time in their crate or pen. Then, let them settle in for a nap (usually an hour or more). You’ll be amazed how much that little rest can reset their attitude and bring your sweet puppy back! 💕 #PuppyTips #DownEastSettersAndLabs #HappyHealthyPuppy

💔🐾 Red Collar Boy’s Journey Continues… 🐾💔 Sometimes life has other plans… Our sweet red-collar boy made the long trip all the way across the country with me to meet what we hoped would be his forever family. Unfortunately, it did not work out, and they were not able to meet us. So this beautiful boy is by my side — my little co-pilot as we make our way home to Maine after visiting with family in North Carolina. It’s hard not to get attached when you’ve spent this much time together on the road — watching him curl up in the seat next to me, those big trusting eyes looking up every time I talk to him. He’s such a beautiful puppy with so much love to give. ❤️ While I know his perfect family is still out there, I can’t help but feel a little grateful for this unexpected extra time with him. He’s been such a trooper, taking everything in stride and reminding me why I love what I do — helping these amazing pups find their forever homes. If you’ve been waiting for the right one, maybe this is your sign. This boy deserves the very best — a family who will love him endlessly and let him be the loyal companion he’s meant to be. 📍 We’re headed back to Maine now, but transport can be arranged if his heart finds its home a little farther away. 📩 Message us for more information or to learn more about this special boy. These moments remind us just how much heart goes into every puppy we raise — they take a piece of us wherever they go. ❤️

🧬🐶 Ever Wonder What Causes “Puppy Breath”? 🐶🧬 That sweet, slightly sour scent that every new puppy owner can instantly recognize — yes, puppy breath — actually has a fascinating scientific explanation! 👉 Here’s what’s going on inside those tiny mouths: Developing digestive systems: Puppies have immature gastrointestinal tracts and different bacterial balances than adult dogs. The natural flora in their mouths and tummies releases mild compounds that create that “puppy breath” aroma. Mother’s milk and soft foods: Residue from milk and early mushy puppy food adds a faintly sweet note — especially before they switch to kibble. Teething changes: Around 3–6 weeks old, their baby teeth start coming in (and later falling out). During that time, saliva chemistry shifts and mild gum inflammation can influence the smell. Healthy enzymes: Puppies’ bodies are constantly changing, and the growth enzymes that support digestion and development can subtly affect their breath too. So that irresistible puppy breath isn’t just cute — it’s a sign of a growing, healthy little body at work! 🧫💨 Sadly, it doesn’t last forever. Once those adult teeth come in and their oral bacteria mature, the signature scent fades. So enjoy those sweet Setter snuggles and Lab kisses while they’re still delightfully “puppy!” 💕🐾 So if you’ve got a little one at home right now, soak it in while you can — puppy breath season is short but oh-so-sweet! 💕 📘 Fun Fact: Irish Setters tend to teethe a little later than Labs, but both breeds are known for putting everything in their mouths while exploring the world — from sticks to shoelaces! 😆 Regular brushing and safe chew toys will help keep their smiles (and breath) fresh long after the puppy breath stage is gone. 🪥🐾 Tell us — are you one of those people who actually loves puppy breath, or do you hold your nose and pass on the kisses? 😆

🐾 Puppy Road Trip Time! 🐾 It’s almost that time again — the van will be loaded up with adorable passengers and heading out on our puppy delivery adventure! 🚐💨💛 We’ll be meeting people in MA, NJ, FL and NC before making our way back home to Maine. These lucky pups have their bags packed, toys ready, and plenty of snacks for the ride.🐾🐾 We’ll be in touch soon with everyone’s meeting times — can’t wait to see all the happy faces (both two- and four-legged)! ❤️

🐾💛🐾 Today is one of those days that brings a mix of joy, pride, and a whole lot of emotion. The puppies are leaving for their new homes, and while it’s such an exciting time for all their families, it’s also one of the hardest parts of raising them. For the past 8 weeks, these little faces have been my entire world. Every single day has revolved around feeding, cleaning, socializing, cuddling, and making sure each puppy grows into the happy, healthy, confident companion they’re meant to be. From those first tiny squeaks and wobbly steps to the chaos of puppy playtime and the snuggles before bed — they’ve filled our home and hearts completely. The last few days have been busy beyond words, making sure everyone is groomed, packed, and ready for the big adventures ahead. But no matter how many litters we raise, it never gets easier to say goodbye. You pour your heart into them, watch their personalities bloom, and then it’s time to let go so they can bring that same love and happiness into someone else’s life. To all of our new puppy families — thank you for trusting us and for opening your homes and hearts to one of our babies. Please know a big piece of my heart goes with each of them today and even though its a mix of stressful, sad, happy, lonely and excited most of all we are proud of each and every puppy we have produced. Please keep us updated and let us know how they settle into their new homes.❤️ Safe travels to everyone picking up or meeting us on the road — and to our sweet pups, may your new adventures be full of love, learning, and lots of belly rubs.

🚗💚 Why Some 8-Week-Old Puppies Get Car Sick We get a lot of messages from new puppy families worried that their little one got sick on the ride home — and don’t worry, it’s very common at this age! At around 8 weeks old, a puppy’s inner ear (the part that helps with balance and motion) is still developing. Combine that with the stress of a brand-new adventure away from mom and littermates, and it’s no surprise that some tummies don’t handle that first car ride so well. A few things that can help: 🌬️ Keep the car cool and quiet 🚗 Start with short, calm rides when you can 🐾 Offer comfort and reassurance — a soft blanket and gentle voice go a long way Most puppies outgrow motion sickness as they mature, usually by 6–12 months old. So if your pup gets queasy now, don’t stress — with time and a few positive travel experiences, they’ll likely be your best co-pilot in no time ❤️ #DownEastSettersAndLabs #PuppyLife #CarSickPups #SetterPuppies #PuppyTips

After losing our 9 year old Irish Setter, we found Jonathans pups on Good Dog. He was extremely responsive, patient with our questions and even traveled over 300+ miles to meet us to make the pick up convenient. Great experience and Jonathan was a pleasure. The pup was beautiful and is now adjusting well in his forever home.

Jonathan thank you so much for all that you did to make me feel comfortable on making a very big decision of adding a new member to our family. You were very passionate of the breed which I have loved for many years. After the loss of my beloved setter two and half years ago Jonathan was instrumental in showing me I could have that love again. He helped me through the process and was there every step of the way. We are very happy with our new little one

Jonathan was very responsive with all of my crazy questions. He sent regular updates of the pups and videos. We drove from Ohio to pick her up and fell in love the second I picked her up in my arms. The parents were on site and they were absolutely beautiful. I can't say enough...

My family and I had been searching for a full blood Irish setter for over a year. After finding Down East they made my families dreams come true. It was wonderful working with them. They keep in contact and their true blue good honest people. Thank you for working with my family and I. I highly recommend them.
