Q. & A. with Andriea
What makes your program special?
I believe that true breed preservation involves producing dogs that will make good pets, as most dogs are pets first and foremost. Our dogs are pets first and my biggest priority in breeding is to produce healthy, stable, structurally correct dogs that will thrive in a variety of homes. All pairings are carefully chosen with structure, temperament, and health in mind. All puppies are raised with a combination of Puppy Culture and AviDog rearing methods to ensure they are given the best possible start in life.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white and red. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Lucy, mom
Nederlandse Kooikerhondje
About Lucy
Lucy is one of the friendliest Kooikerhondjes that I have ever met. Much like her dam, she loves everyone and has never met a stranger. Lucy is a fantastic little sport dog and is currently training in tracking, nosework, and agility. Lucy is high energy and high drive with a good off switch when needed. In the home, Lucy is very lovey, she is constantly looking for someone to cuddle with and wants nothing more than to be close to her humans. Lucy is on the smaller end of the standard at only 14" tall and 18lbs. Breeding plans for Lucy will hinge on health testing results and final approval from her breeder.
Parent health testing
Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Driftless Kooikerhondjes reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Nederlandse Kooikerhondjes.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Full Embark Panel, Chondrodystrophy and IVDD Risk (CDDY-IVDD), DNA Disease Panel, Hereditary Necrotizing Myelopathy (ENM), von Willebrand Disease I (vWD I)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
