Meet the breeder

I'm Gretchen D., the breeder behind Dutton Dog Co & Dalla Grazia Doberman located in Williamston, SC. We’re passionate about raising exceptional dogs. Every puppy is thoughtfully bred, fully health-tested, and raised in our home with early socialization and enrichment so they grow into confident, well-rounded companions. Whether you’re looking for a loyal family dog, a performance partner, or a show prospect, we’re here to help you find the perfect fit for your home.

Q. & A. with Gretchen

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have always wanted to breed dogs, but have never had dogs I thought were breeding quality. After many puppy/dog evaluations and years of testing, I finally decided on my foundation females, and they bring excellent characteristics and traits that will improve their breeds as a whole.
  • What makes your program special?

Few breeders have the depth of expertise to run multiple successful programs with the same high standards. I'm not just a breeder, I have formal training and real-world experience as a vet tech and animal science professional, giving you the knowledge to prioritize health, genetics, and ethical breeding practices. All breeding dogs are screened for hips, elbows, heart, eyes, and breed-specific genetic conditions. This goes far beyond minimal requirements, ensuring longevity, soundness, and better quality of life for your puppies. Puppies are born and raised in my home, not a kennel environment. They receive early neurological stimulation (ENS), early scent introduction (ESI), and structured enrichment so they grow into confident, adaptable dogs. My relationship with puppy families doesn’t end at pick-up. I provide ongoing advice, guidance, and are always available to help with training, health questions, or support. I breed for dogs who meet breed standards in structure and beauty without sacrificing temperament or working ability. Many of my dogs succeed in conformation, performance sports, and as steady family companions.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our Labrador Retriever puppies include black, chocolate, and yellow. Doberman Pinscher puppies include black and rust and red and rust. Golden Retriever puppies include golden and light golden. Bernese Mountain Dog puppies include tri-color, black tan and white, and black rust and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and guardian homes.

I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Gretchen. From the start, she was super easy to talk to, answered all my questions, and clearly cares so much about her dogs. Bringing Tucker home was such a great experience. He’s happy, healthy, and has the sweetest personality, which says a lot about how he was raised. Gretchen does an amazing job making sure her puppies are well cared for and ready for their new homes. I also loved getting updates and pictures along the way—it made the whole process even more exciting. Even after bringing Tucker home, Gretchen has still been there if I had questions, which I really appreciate. I’d 100% recommend Gretchen to anyone looking for a puppy. She’s the best, and I’m so grateful I got Tucker from her!

My goodness, Dalla Grazia Doberman is amazing. We got our baby boy a month ago and I am still so over the hills. Not only did they keep us updated during the growing process but they keep in contact for all help or recommendations. No matter what simple questions I have they are always completely willing to help and give advice, they actually care about their babies. This was not a here is your dog you are on your own but they honestly want what’s best for the babies. Could not have chose a better breeder. Also, during the growth period they are kept close and inside, although, safely socialized. I’ve seen so many breeds lead the babies outside but this breeder is not one of them. She keeps them close you won’t get just a picture you will receive regular updates and vet updates while you await proper age pickup. Kosta has adapted so well to our home and he gets compliments every time we are safely socializing him (aka holding him like a baby, haha). My seven year old is obsessed with him. Although, I can go on and on. We want to express our gratitude again Dalla Grazia, the wait was worth it. He is a perfect family addition.

Gretchen was professional and quick to respond to all our questions! We had never purchased a puppy this way and had lots of questions throughout the process. Gretchen was knowledgeable about the breed and kept us updated on how our puppy was doing until we were able to bring him home at 8 weeks. We would definitely recommend Dutton Dog Co for your puppy needs!

We found Gretchen via Good Dog. We literally drove 10 hours to pick up our new black lab puppy. What drew us to Ruffus—now Finn—was that he was the runt of the litter. Runts are often scrappy, smart, and full of restless energy. Ruffus seemed well cared for by Gretchen; you could tell he was in safe hands. We were never easy on Gretchen, the breeder. Like many breeders in the USA, she’s a mixed bag—questionable and commendable in equal measure. We pushed boundaries with Gretchen because we wanted a healthy, robust puppy. Every push was met with the right answer. We may have driven the owner a little nuts at times. Then again, that’s us projecting. Our view is simple: Gretchen sticks to the book. And now we have a wonderful, healthy puppy. Mr. Finn, the runt, is a pistol—smoky-eyed stares that say you’re under surveillance. That’s the result of being well cared for. Or perhaps it’s in the bloodline. We do recommend Gretchen. But always ask the tough questions. We found she met all question do to her true ability to breed puppies. Let hope Gretchen continues to stay vigilant and continues her passion to breed healthy happy dogs. Gretchen my last thought. Smile. You did well. The Gregoire’s

Gretchen was just a pleasure to work with. She was incredibly helpful and gave us a ton of resources to help us hit the ground running with our new puppy, Mars. She answered all of of questions during the process and even provided answer tk questions we didn’t even know we needed to ask. She gave us links to all the materials we would need to care for our pup, like pens, grass pads, dremel for their nails, etc. she went above and beyond for us the whole way through. It was obvious how much she cares for her dogs and the great environment that they come from. I would absolutely go back to Gretchen in a heart beat the next time we wanted a pup. Thank you so much!
