Meet the breeder

I'm Linda I., the breeder behind Excel Shu-Ku Akitas located in New Jersey. We are AKC Breeders of Merit and members of the Akita Club of America and the Garden State Akita Club. We are a small breeder with over 35 years of experience, devoted to the preservation and perfection of the Akita Breed. Our goal is to produce the best possible Akita, which includes proper temperament and type.

Q. & A. with Linda

  • Why did you start breeding?

I acquired my first Akita in 1984, and co-bred my first litter in 1994. I got a pup from that litter and had my first homebred litter in 1996. Frank got his first Akita in 1985 & gad his first litter in 1991. We really got into breeding when we combined our kennels from there, we were on a long search for the perfect Akita and couldn't find exactly what we were looking for. With our new knowledge and passion for the breed, we realized that we had the love and patience to breed and raise healthy and happy pups.
  • What makes your program special?

We are devoted to the preservation and perfection of the Akita breed. We strive to keep our standards high by choosing to breed only dogs that have passed the required health checks. Nine times out of ten, we choose to only breed dogs that are champions or pointed in the show ring. We breed to maintain the proper temperament, head, ear-set, bone and brilliant color.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
